Entry #7: Fresh
I recently watched a short 1-hour film called Fresh , which was directed by Ana Sofia Joanes in 2009. The film's main purpose was to highlight the farmers and activists pushing agriculture to new heights while also informing everyone who eats food, about how and where these foods actually come from. This film was extremely interesting to me, and although some parts may have been hard to watch, the film did a great job of informing me about where my foods are coming from, as well as what farmers were doing to push agriculture forward in a better direction.
Image SourceThe film Fresh had an interesting tone about it, the tone seemed very serious in some parts, but for other parts like when Will Allen was talking, the tone felt a bit more hopeful and almost a bit informal and educational as well. The shift in tone from part to part within the film is actually what stood out to me the most, the shifts in tone were very useful to me and helped me understand the type of message that they were trying to indicate to us the audience. My opinion of the film was very positive as the film itself did a great job of informing its audience about the various struggles of farmers, for instance when they introduced Mr. and Mrs. Fox who owned a poultry farm, we were shown just how harsh corporate farming can be since they struggled immensely to find workers due to the harsh processing of chickens.
Image SourceThus, I believe that this film matters immensely as it is a great way to educate ourselves on the issue of modern agriculture as well as what we are actually eating. This issue is something that should matter to everyone who eats food since naturally we should aim to eat the best and highest quality foods so that we may live healthy and sustaining lives.
