Entry #2 Overcoming A Kitchen Catastrophe.
I woke up today as I do everyday, phone in my face and opening TikTok first thing in the morning. Usually I see many different types of videos, however, almost as if TikTok was teasing me, I watched about 7 videos straight that only involved food. Naturally upon seeing these delectable foods I wanted to eat, however, I did not simply want to eat what I usually eat which is practically only my Mom's cooking. I wanted to experiment and try to make food for myself today, more importantly recreate one of the beautiful dishes I watched being made on TikTok. This was the perfect day to try to cook as well, since my parents went on a trip this past week, and I just ran out of food that they left me while they were gone. I have never really tried to cook because I always believed that I would not do good so I have never really tried. One could say I was afraid of cooking, thus I avoided it.
I mean just looking at the still makes my mouth water. After carefully watching the video and following the steps, I got the part where I was supposed to make a cheese sauce. In this recipe you were supposed to add flour, however, they did not exactly specify which type of flour to use so I decided to use the first flour I found and just poured in the amount needed. After several minutes of mixing instead of getting a nice, creamy, beautiful sauce I ended up with a bunch of chunks of flour in milk. Not only that, but the more I mixed the worse it seemed to get. I was so disappointed and sad and I genuinely thought that I should just give up since I couldn't understand what it was I did wrong. It was at that moment I realized there is no way I was about to quit, I was craving creamy mac and cheese for so long there was no way I was not going to have some today. So I threw out the failed first attempt of a cheese sauce and tried again. This time I meticulously watched through the steps again to see if I missed anything, and sure enough, I made one critical error. I had my heat on high the whole time when I was supposed to put it on a lower heat, so keeping this in mind I tried again, This is when it finally happened, I finally had the creamy consistency I was looking for, I added my cheeses and my macaroni, and at the very end it actually looked like really good mac and cheese and even tasted as good as it looked. This made me realize that I should not have expected everything to be perfect at first, and I shouldn't have been so ready to quit because through practice we can conquer our fears even if its something as small as cooking. This cooking extravaganza reminded me of the saying:
The meal that I was particularly craving was a nice creamy, cheesy, delectable bowl of mac and cheese. Naturally, I thought since it was just mac and cheese it should be easy to make even for someone like me. So after going back to that TikTok page I saw, I found this video on their YouTube with the expectations that I could make a mac and cheese that looked like this:

In the end my mac and cheese did not look like that picture I was salivating over, however, I was able to make mac and cheese I was proud of and that was tasty despite having failed at the sauce the first time. This is the first step for me cooking for myself full time and it also reminded me we never know we can do something until we try, and even if we fail we can still succeed eventually!
