Blogs: Good Vs. Bad

Hello Everyone,

In this post, I will discuss my opinion on blogs, as well as discuss 2 interesting blogs I recently read. Both blogs are male-oriented and they both give great advice on various different things such as dating, grooming, health, fitness, and investing. They also both share a wide variety of tips and tricks which are quite useful.

To start I want to share my thoughts on blogs as a whole. I think blogs are not only very fun to read through, but I also find that many blogs actually contain a wide variety of knowledge that I didn't think I would be able to find. I used to think blogs were boring, or that they were only for personal use, however after taking the time to read through blogs and thoroughly understand the authors writing and purpose, I truly started to appreciate blogs.

The first of the two blogs that I want to discuss is the one that I liked a lot called Primer. The reason I loved this blog so much was that it was organized very nicely which is very important to me because if a blog makes it hard to find things and is confusing, then it makes reading it less fun and more annoying. The actual way in which it was organized is easy to use, they put the different topics at the top of the page, and when you clicked a topic you wanted you are met with many different posts, which ensured that you would find what you were looking for easily. The way it was formatted was also very pleasing, in the posts there was much more text than pictures, however, when there were pictures they were pretty helpful. For example:

The author's purpose seems to be as simple as just educating and helping men out in various ways. The organization makes it easy to find help in any area you are struggling with, and the tone feels instructive which is heavily influenced by the purpose. And the images all provide the purpose of educating or motivating, such as :

Now I will talk about the blog called Men's Health which I disliked. At first, the blog seems similar to Primer, the organization is nearly identical and the author's purpose seems to be educating and motivating men in fitness, health, love, and other areas of life. The format is mostly text, however, this blog includes a lot of videos that were super digestible, more so than just pictures. I liked the blog a lot at first because of the educational videos, the videos were influenced by the author's want to educate men, and the videos were especially helpful when describing exercises. The blog seems like it could be even better than Primer, however, after clicking around at a few posts you are unable to continue looking through the blog's posts unless you pay. This is why I heavily disliked this blog, not only did it seem really good but I felt like I would've been able to learn a lot from this blog if I didn't have to pay. From this, It was apparent that the author's purpose is not simply to educate and motivate men, but also to make money which is why the blog style was this way.

The author's purpose is one if not the most important part of a blog, in my opinion. Primer's purpose was to educate and help men in all areas of their lives which contributed to their format, organization, and visuals overall making it a great blog to me. Men's Health seemed to have the purpose of educating men as well which influenced their videos, tone, and organization, however, they also wanted money overall making it a dislikeable blog to me.
